The Annual Spring Concert of Mayo Male Voice Choir took place in the Welcome Inn on Friday March 27th. It was a terrific success and the choir members would like to thank everyone who attended on the night. The choir find it so satisfying after all the work that is put in beforehand, in preparation for the big night, when the door opens and people stream in looking forward to an entertaining night out. The Fáilte Suite had been completely transformed from a short while earlier, a training course having just finished up at 2pm. Great credit for the quick changeover and setup has to be given to John King, Adrian Healy and the crew of the Welcome Inn and to Gary Monaghan of Westcoast Audio who arrived with sound, lights and even the tiered stage.

Christmas 2014 – Report

Carol singing and fund raising during the Christmas 2014 season.

Our chosen charity for this year was Childline who are desperately in need of funds to continue operations. €700 was raised from the Choir’s carol singing activities and presented to Childline in early 2015.

What a busy time our choir have had during the Christmas run-in. From the bustle of Tesco and Boots to the calm of Abbeybreaffy and Cuan Chaitriona and finally to the sheer joy of Knock Airport on Tuesday December 23rd. It is impossible to describe the depth of joy evident in Knock at the arrival home of loved ones from all over the world. It was really wonderful to be a part of it both last year and this year. Family bonds are thankfully still very strong in Ireland. Below are some of the pictures from all venues ending with screen captures from Knock. We hope you enjoy them.

Derry Festival 2014

Mayo Male Voice Choir End October on a High!

October was a busy month for Mayo Male Voice Choir with two major engagements less than a fortnight apart from each other.

The second major engagement for MMVC was a trip to Derry to participate in the Derry Choral Festival. Truth be known, the choir like nothing better than a weekend away!

Louisburgh 2014

Mayo Male Voice Choir End October on a High!

October was a busy month for Mayo Male Voice Choir with two major engagements less than a fortnight apart from each other.

On October 10th, the choir joined Louisburgh Junior Church Choir and Louisburgh’s own world class mezzo-soprano, Ann Marie Gibbons for what is now fast becoming the annual Louisburgh Order of Malta fundraiser, this year in the Derrylahan Inn.

Walter Loughrey – 30 September 2014 R.I.P – Obituary

Walter Loughrey, Past President, RIP

Tribute by Patsy Murphy.

It was with deep regret and sadness that we learned of the death of our good friend and colleague Walter (Wally) Loughrey on Tuesday last, 30th September. He passed away very peacefully, surrounded by his family, from whom he had received the utmost of care and attention during his illness.

Mayo Male Voice Choir members formed a guard of honour along with other musical and sporting organisations in his home town of Ballinrobe on Wednesday evening for the removal of his remains to St Mary’s Church. At the funeral service the following morning, the choir gallery was full as members of the MMVC and the local church choir joined forces. They sang the Mass together with hymns that included ‘Soul of my Saviour’ and ‘A Mhuire Mháthair’.

At 7.30 pm on the 10th April the doors of the Welcome Inn Hotel were opened as the good citizens of Mayo, and the many friends of the choir, streamed in for the annual Spring concert of Mayo Male Voice Choir. There was a great sense of satisfaction derived by the choir members from the knowledge that the many, many hours of practice and preparation were not to be in vain, that an intelligent and discerning audience (naturally!) were happy to attend and appreciate the fruits of that hard work. By the time the show began it was standing room only in the Fáilte Suite.
