For the Mayo Male Voice Choir, 2010 was a special year. It was their 10th anniversary, and they celebrated the occasion in style with a gala concert in the magnificent surroundings of the Royal Theatre, Castlebar. Such was the success of the night — with a very large crowd really enjoying the music and entertainment on offer — that the choir decided to hold this year’s Springtime Concert in the leading entertainment venue in the west of Ireland.

Paddy Kilroy – 17 Oct 2010 RIP – Obituary

2008. Paddy is in the front row (second from left)
Photo taken at the launch of Who Wants to be a Thousandaire, a fund raiser for St. Gerald’s in 2008. Paddy is in the front row (second from left), the oldest living past pupil of St. Gerald’s at the time, having bought the first ticket for the draw.
It is with great regret that we record the passing of one of Castlebar’s true gentlemen and an esteemed member of our choir. Indeed though Paddy wasn’t able to participate in our rehearsals for the last few years, he still attended our concerts in full uniform, a singular act appreciated by all our choir members. That deed was sadly repaid, when a large contingent of our choir, in full uniform, formed a guard of honour at his removal recently from Coadys Funeral Home, Castlebar on Monday evening to the Church of the Holy Rosary, Castlebar. Requiem Mass was held on Tuesday morning at 11am. Burial afterwards was in the Castlebar Old Cemetery.
