Western People 17th May 2006

The annual concert of the Mayo Male Voice Choir was held before a capacity audience in the Linenhall Arts Centre recently. Under the baton of Musical Director, Deirdre Lee, the 38 member choir delivered a varied selection of pieces from light popular to old standards and on to the choral classics.

Accompanist for the choir was George Lee, while the special guest was the inter-nationally renowned baritone, David Durham, a firm favourite with the audience. Musicians Tom Lyons, Sinead Healy and Michael Buckton provided backing instrumentals.

Now in its sixth year, the choir draws its membership from across the county. The choir chairman, Sean Gavin paid tribute to all who had made the concert such a success, with special praise reserved for Deirdre Lee for her hard work and dedication.

The officers for the Mayo Male Voice Choir are: President: Seamus Chambers; Chairman: Sean Gavin; Hon Secretary: Eamon Horkan; Hon Treasurer: Michael Basquille; PRO: Aidan Brett; Committee: Tony Conway, Michael Reynolds, Paddy O’Connor, Hubert Glynn and Noel Lester.
